Featured Friday with Christa Cervone, Charles Sheehan-Miles, RJ Keller, Stacey Bentley and Sarah's Book Blog

Pshew!  That'a a lot of awesomeness being featured today for the Stamford Author Event!  Partly my fault, I was a slacker and didn't get my post done last Friday. *hangs head in shame*  I have been putting in some looooong hours at my real job (you should check out my other facebook page that deals with that job), and trying to enjoy my last few weekends with the heathen before he goes to the grandparents for the summer.  I think things are finally falling back in place.  (And I am looking forward to some peace and quiet!  As much as I can get with my kitty Styx stalking me wherever I go.)  Enough of my rambling, on with the post!

First up today we have Charles Sheehan-Miles, who after reading his bio, I give major props to for his work with veterans.  I have major respect for all service veterans, but especially combat wounded, as my dad lost a leg in Vietnam, while in the Marine Corps.

Republic

Ken Murphy is a 45 year-old National Guard Colonel and senior manager at a computer chip manufacturer in quiet Highview, West Virginia. In this future history featuring frightening parallels to our present, the local economy is thrown into a tailspin when the plant is suddenly shut down, even as the nation is thrown into turmoil by a deadly domestic terrorist attack.

Karen Greenfield, a young captain in Murphy’s National Guard battalion, faces a devastating choice: how does she serve the Constitution she swore to protect when the danger comes from the federal government itself? After witnessing the senseless death of a co-worker, she begins to question the foundations of everything she has ever believed.

Murphy must fight for healthcare for his terminally ill son. As he tries to save his son’s life, and Greenfield struggles to serve the ideals she believes in, they are dragged into a deeper conflict between the forces that are ripping our nation apart.
Republic is a very interesting, thought provoking story about the loss of jobs due to corporate greed, abuse of power by government agencies, and a civil war.

This novel of America’s future may be prophetic…It will disturb you…It should.“–Kenneth J. Bernstein, Daily Kos, June 25, 2007
 Insurgent
Three months after the end of the West Virginia civil war, Valerie Murphy faces her worst fears as the violence escalates. Former Congressman Al Clark, now Governor of the bankrupt state, must quell an insurgency even as he struggles to put the state back together.

Just Remember To Breathe
Alex Thompson’s life is following the script. A pre-law student at Columbia University, she’s focused on her grades, her life and her future. The last thing she needs is to reconnect with the boy who broke her heart.
Dylan Paris comes home from Afghanistan severely injured and knows that the one thing he cannot do is drag Alex into the mess he’s made of his life.
When Dylan and Alex are assigned to the same work study program and are forced to work side by side, they have to make new ground rules to keep from killing each other.
Only problem is, they keep breaking the rules.
The first rule is to never, ever talk about how they fell in love.
Critics:
“The story grabs hold of you and not let you go. I cried, I laughed, and I cried a little more….This book is too good to pass up, and I beg of you, please read it.” – The Indie Bookshelf
It is a poignant and sometimes emotionally overwhelming experience of both life and love…” – The Literary Review
A Song For Julia
Crank Wilson left his South Boston home at sixteen to start a punk band and burn out his rage at the world. Six years later, he’s still at odds with his father, a Boston cop, and doesn’t ever speak to his mother. The only relationship that really matters is with his younger brother, but watching out for Sean can be a full-time job.
The one thing Crank wants in life is to be left the hell alone to write his music and drive his band to success.
Julia Thompson left a secret behind in Beijing that exploded into scandal in Washington, DC, threatening her father’s career and dominating her family’s life. Now, in her senior year at Harvard, she’s haunted by a voice from her past and refuses to ever lose control of her emotions again, especially when it comes to a guy.
When Julia and Crank meet at an anti-war protest in Washington in the fall of 2002, the connection between them is so powerful it threatens to tear everything apart.
 Author's Bio
I’m a forty-ish writer of several novels includingRepublic, Insurgent, and Prayer at Rumayla. I’ve got a few short stories and two non-fiction books out there as well.
My background: I spent some time traveling the Middle East on my own in the late nineteen eighties, then went back courtesy of the United States Army as a tank crewman during the 1991 Gulf War.  After that I spent most of the next two decades pursuing dual careers: nonprofit activist and information technology professional. Eventually the two combined: from 2003 until 2009 I was completely in the nonprofit sector, served as executive director of two nonprofits and director of IT of a third.
Unfortunately, when the 2008 economic crash hit, it took my career with it. For several years I had to retool, and managed restaurants in the Atlanta area. Recently I found my way back into my chosen career: I work in veterans outreach and public affairs for a law firm which represents disabled veterans. In my free time I write books, this blog, play with the kids, and generally try to make it through life doing as much good as possible.

Waiting For Spring blurb:

The pain in Tess Dyer's heart stems from a lifetime of rejection: by her distant mother, by a string of one-night stands, and by her husband, Jason. He promised to love her forever, yet here she is, divorced and shunned in her own town. She tries everything to dull the pain: sex, work, and endlessly cleaning the house. Finally, in a fit of despair, she abandons the small town of Brookfield, Maine, for an even smaller town, determined to start over with a clean slate. But she can't run from the demons in her head, and she soon falls back on her old habits, this time with the help of her sexy new neighbor Brian. Though she tells herself he is just a warm body to dull the pain, his kindness has a soothing effect on her bruised heart. But the fear of losing his love is always there, and before long, Tess’s past threatens to destroy her fragile new happiness. Ultimately, she must make a choice: continue drifting through life, or confront the cruel realities of her past and start living. A dramatic departure from contemporary chick-lit, Waiting for Spring is a moving novel about a real woman struggling to find her place in the world.

According to the Webster’s Dictionary the definition of the word Broken is violently separated into parts : shattered

Yup, that pretty much sums me up. How do I handle things? I find my answers at the bottom of a bottle of Tequila and sleeping with random men.

How did I get this way you ask? Well four years ago I made a decision that cost me the love of my life. I can't undo the things that broke Garrett's heart and drove him out of my life.

I haven't seen or heard from him in four long years. But he still haunts me in my dreams or should I call them nightmares at this point. No matter how much booze I drink and how many men I sleep with nothing fills that void. I feel like I am existing but I’m not really living.

I’m trying to get my life back on track! I've started seeing a therapist and I've cut back on my drinking. Well that was until. . . . BOOM! Garrett walked back into my life. His reappearance threw me into another tailspin.

Can we put the pieces of our broken hearts back together? Is there hope for us?

Author's Bio

I was born and raised in Massachusetts. I married the love of my life who I met when I was 16 and he was 19. We now have three amazing kids. After taking a very long break from reading, my friend encouraged me to read the FSOG series over the summer. Of course like every woman on the planet I fell in love with the series. This led me to read several other Erotic Romance novels. My world really took a crazy turn when I met a bunch of women on a Facebook Group who also shared the same love of "Smutty" books. During that time I became very friendly with Teresa Mummert. Why you ask? Because both of us LOVE Adam Levine. Teresa is the one who inspired me to write.

I kept my writing secret from all of my "real" Facebook friends and even my family. I only revealed on my personal page that I wrote a book a month before Broken was released. I've now successfully self-published my first novel and it was on Amazon's Movers and Shakers List as well in the Top Twenty in Erotica on Amazon. It's a Contemporary Romance/Erotic Novel, definitely not for everyone. I am currently working on two more novels titled "Going the Distance" and "Saved."

Sarah's Book Blog

So about me, I'm 27 years old and a mommy to three little boys. I have been married for going on 10 years now to my first true love (awwwww hehe) he's a pain in the butt though. I used to work on the OB floor and the women's health office, I love love love babies but I left so I could be home with mine ♥

About the books I like. I actually started reading a while ago. While I was pregnant with my first I had preclampsia and was on complete bed rest for a LONG time so I picked up Nicolas Sparks The Rescue and I was hooked. Then I got into the whole paranormal thing when Twilight came out. Now I read anything, I really like new adult books. I love watching a young couple find themselves and fall madly in love. I of course love the hot sexy erotic books as well. I hate hate hate reading a book that ends with a huge cliffhanger that I had no idea about and then have no clue when the next books should be out! I'm sure that makes everyone nuts.

I wish I could read more than I do. My husband is one of those that is constantly driving me nuts when I read. I get the "your reading again". "Why can't you put it down" blah blah blah...hes a pain in the butt, but I still love him.

I'm a HUGE New York Yankees fan. I have lived in upstate NY my whole life and one of my biggest and favorite memories is when my Dad and I would watch the games and he would quiz me on batting averages and players.

SO with that, there is a bit of info about me. I love hearing what people have to say about books and I LOVE when people give me recommendations.

ALSO!

I am now not the only one doing reviews on my page. Patty Euefueno is an awesome person who does reviews for me when I go crazy with overload. She is an awesome person and even though I have only talked to her a few times, I love her!!
